Executive Sponsor Pulse
Five questions for the sponsor: value visible, risks felt, and the air cover holding.
5 questions · 1 page · about 2 minutes to answer · fully editable after you start
Projects die when sponsors quietly stop defending them. This five-question pulse keeps the sponsor relationship measured: value visibility at their altitude, risk perception, resource commitment holding, and the air-cover question asked directly – is this still worth your political capital.
Five questions is the design constraint, not a starting point. Sponsors are surveyed by everyone and answer almost nobody; an instrument they can complete between meetings gets answered every month, and one that takes fifteen minutes gets answered once and then delegated to someone whose opinion you did not want.
Sponsor answers trending down precede budget reviews by a quarter; this pulse buys the intervention time. The risk question is the one to read first and act on fastest – a sponsor naming a worry the delivery team has not seen is describing the gap between what the project reports and what the organisation believes, and that gap is what kills initiatives that are otherwise going well.
