An ethics channel people might actually trust

The ethics hotline poster is up; the reports don't come. People assume the 'anonymous' web form saves their IP with the report — and with most tools, they're right.

The short way: A reporting channel where each report is saved with no IP address, browser details or identity link, structured enough to act on and held in the ethics officer's own account.

Type this — that’s the whole job

“A confidential ethics report form: category of concern, what was observed, when and where, people involved if known, anything else”

How it works — three steps

  1. 1

Describe your categories; the AI drafts neutral, non-leading intake questions.

  2. 2

Anonymous collection ON — verify it in settings, then say so honestly on the intro.

  3. 3

Create it in the ethics officer's own account with response alerts on — they hear of each report, and nobody else does.

What’s doing the work

True anonymous mode

No IP address, browser details or identity link are saved with the report or appear in exports. Other records of a visit still exist, so say that on the poster too: routine security logs on our servers keep IP addresses for up to 30 days, our network provider (Cloudflare) sees each request, and the app keeps an abuse-protection record of the IP address for 48 hours — none of it is attached to the response.

Response alerts

In the officer's own account, word of each report reaches them within minutes — and only them.

Retention controlPro

Reports older than the retention period you set are deleted automatically, with any files attached.

Questions people ask

How can a reporter trust the anonymity claim?

State the mechanics on the form itself: your IP address and browser details are not saved with your report, there is no login and no invite link — but a visit is not invisible: routine security logs on our servers keep IP addresses for up to 30 days, our network provider (Cloudflare) sees each request, and the app keeps an abuse-protection record of the IP address for 48 hours — none of it is attached to the response. Specific claims build the trust vague assurances never do.

Two-way dialogue with an anonymous reporter?

Turn on “Let respondents receive replies anonymously” on the anonymous link. After they submit, the reporter is given a private link — theirs alone to keep — where they read your questions and answer them, without an email address or a name ever being asked for.

Minutes, not weeks. That’s the deal.
