BYOD Policy Experience Survey

Personal devices at work: enrolment friction, privacy comfort, and the workarounds.

4 questions · 1 page · about 2 minutes to answer · fully editable after you start

BYOD policies balance security's needs against employees' phones, and the balance is felt daily: enrolment friction, battery and performance costs of management profiles, privacy comfort about what IT can see, and the workaround economy when the balance fails. This survey measures the felt policy.

The amnesty on the workaround question has to be real and stated plainly. You are asking people to describe a policy violation, and the answers are worth having only if nobody is identified by them – run it anonymously, say so, and resist every subsequent request to find out who said what.

Watch the privacy-comfort score: people tend to route around management they distrust. Most BYOD workarounds are not defiance but pragmatism – a document emailed to a personal address because the managed app would not open it on a train – and each one is a specific, fixable friction. Publishing what IT genuinely can and cannot see on a personal device usually moves the comfort score further than any additional control.
