Market Research Survey

Validate a new product idea or pricing model with your target market.

13 questions · 3 pages · about 4 minutes to answer · fully editable after you start

Good market research narrows a decision. This template is built for the stage before a launch or a positioning change, when the question is still open: who is the buyer, how big is their organisation, what problem are they solving, how often it comes up, and what are they doing about it today.

It covers current behaviour and alternatives before it asks about your idea, deliberately. Ask about a proposed product first and every later answer is coloured by the wish to be helpful. Ask what someone already does, what it costs them in time and money, what they have tried and how satisfied they are with it, and you get a description of the problem you can check your idea against. Only then does the last page describe the idea – write two or three plain sentences in the page description – and ask about interest, purchase intent on the standard five-point scale, the price they would expect to pay and what would make them hesitate.

Willingness to pay should be read carefully: stated price sensitivity is directionally useful and numerically unreliable. Treat a low number as a signal to investigate rather than as a price. Replace [the problem] with the job your product does, in the words your buyers would use.
