New Market Entry Study

Before entering a market: local habits, incumbent loyalty, and the switching price.

4 questions · 1 page · about 3 minutes to answer · fully editable after you start

Market entry fails on imported assumptions. This study reads the target market on its own terms: current solutions and their entrenchment, satisfaction gaps with incumbents, openness to a new entrant by origin and type, and the concrete switching requirements – price, proof, availability.

Ask how long people have used their current solution, not just which one. Tenure is the best available proxy for switching cost, and a market that looks winnable on satisfaction scores alone can be effectively closed if everyone in it has been with the incumbent for a decade and has never had cause to evaluate an alternative.

The what-would-a-newcomer-need answers, in locals' words, brief both proposition and go-to-market better than any analyst deck. Run it before the business case rather than after: entry studies commissioned to validate a decision already made get read for the encouraging quotes, while the same study run early can still change the price point, the channel, or the decision to enter at all – which is the most valuable outcome it can produce.
