Accessibility

Everyone who answers a survey, and everyone who builds one, should be able to use Thisys.

Our target

We aim for Thisys to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA: the pages people answer surveys on, and the app survey owners use to build, send and read them. This is a target we test against, not a certificate. Thisys has not been independently audited yet.

How we test

  • Automated accessibility rules (axe-core) run in our test suite before each release, on components and on real rendered pages, including colour contrast in the light and dark looks and on the respondent themes.
  • Keyboard checks: a skip link on every page with the site header, across the website and the app (a survey page has nothing to skip: it opens straight onto the survey, after its language and theme buttons), and menus and dialogs that open and close from the keyboard and put focus back where it was.
  • Layout at 320 pixels wide, the same as a desktop at 400% zoom, with nothing scrolling sideways; and tap targets of at least 24 pixels.
  • The survey pages and sign-in are also tested in Firefox and Safari, on a desktop and on an iPhone, as well as in Chrome.
  • When a survey owner makes their own theme, the theme editor's Readability for respondents panel checks the contrast of every colour pair, and respondents are shown a readable version of any pair that falls short.

Gaps we know of

  • We have not yet completed a full test with a screen reader (such as VoiceOver or NVDA). Our checks are automated and by keyboard.
  • The app survey owners use is in English only. Respondents see their survey in its own language. The Report this survey form reads in English and the 18 other languages with built-in respondent text; on a survey in any other language its link says (EN).
  • A survey's words are written by its owner. We check its colours, not whether its wording is clear to everyone.

Tell us about a barrier

If something in Thisys stops you, or a survey you were sent is hard to use, please Contact us. Tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, and the browser and any assistive technology you use. If the Contact page does not work for you, email support@thisys.com.
